Design — what changed
The most visible change is the material. The iPhone 16 Pro uses a titanium frame, which many users considered premium and lightweight. The iPhone 17 Pro switches to a heat-forged aluminium unibody design.
The aluminium body is slightly heavier (206g vs 199g) but Apple claims the unibody construction improves heat dissipation significantly — which matters for sustained performance during gaming or video recording. The camera bump is also redesigned into a flat "plateau" that sits more cleanly on a table.
Colour options changed too. The 17 Pro comes in Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue, and Silver. The 16 Pro came in Black Titanium, White Titanium, Natural Titanium, and Desert Titanium. Both phones are IP68 rated for water and dust resistance.
Display
Both phones have a 6.3-inch OLED display at 2622x1206 resolution with 120Hz ProMotion. The key difference is brightness — the iPhone 17 Pro reaches 3,000 nits peak brightness compared to 2,000 nits on the 16 Pro. In Dubai's harsh outdoor sunlight, this is a genuine real-world improvement.
The 17 Pro also uses Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, offering 3x better scratch resistance than the standard Ceramic Shield on the 16 Pro.
Performance — A19 Pro vs A18 Pro
The iPhone 17 Pro runs the A19 Pro chip, while the 16 Pro has the A18 Pro. Both are extremely fast — the difference in everyday tasks like browsing, WhatsApp, and social media is essentially zero.
